Ieva Raustyte
I plan to sustainably produce interior
lighting. A central theme will be buttons, but my design
progression and thought development is quite plastic, so may
organically advance through the creative process. I am going to ask
people to donate buttons from old clothes that they plan to throw
out. I will also take some from charity shops, my house, garage and
college. I will also diversify the materials used, with acrylic
cast offs, and cut off pieces, using card board models.
As my designs progressed, I found that
the cardboard model box I made as a template for an acrylic
one actually formed a really good light box itself. The use of
recycled cardboard would make the project sustainable. It is
important for the future to use recycled materials because the
Earth's natural resources are going to end someday, so we have to
learn how to live without them. Working within the scope of
recycled materials means you have to be even more creative.
I did not have any difficulties finding prominent designers who
use recycled materials, although it seems there aren't many.
