10:10

10:10 is a movement of people, schools, businesses and
organisations cutting their carbon emissions 10% at a time. Bedford
College committed to the 10:10 campaign and acheived their
targets!
Our commitment to 10:10 underlines our obligation to reduce
Bedford College’s carbon
footprint and we urge all staff and students to continue
the effort. We intend to lead the further education sector in
sustainable development in both
our operations and curriculum. We acheived a great deal through
switching to low energy light bulbs, making our use of space more
efficient and through behaviour change campaigns.
Big tasks are easier if broken up into smaller, manageable
pieces and 10% in 2011 is much more tangible and
achievable than, say, 80% by 2050. Worldwide, the 10:10
project recruited:
- 107,602 people including Delia Smith, Sara Cox, Vivienne
Westwood and Colin Firth
- 4,285 businesses including Royal Mail, O2, Adidas and Tottenham
Hotspur FC
- 2,323 schools, colleges and universities including Edinburgh
University, King's College London, York University and Liverpool
University
- 2,690 other organisations including the National Union of
Students, the Women’s' Institute and 155 local councils
representing over 24m people
The 10:10 campaign does not demand unrealistic
changes, but promotes small steps that can have a great impact on
the future of our planet. Changes including using energy efficient light bulbs, composting,
recycling, walking or cycling to work and reducing food
waste, all significantly help achieve this target.
