Welcome
Bedford College is committed to the principles
of sustainability and minimising the adverse impact of our
activities on the environment. We intend to lead the further
education sector in sustainable development in both our operations
and curriculum. The College is a Centre of Vocational Excellence
(CoVE) in Skills for Energy. We won the prestigious Green Gown
Award 2008 for our contribution to sustainability curriculum
developments and delivery and the Green Gown 2009 Highly Commended
Colleges award for our whole organisation approach to embedding
sustainability.
We aim to:
- incorporate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into
all training programmes across the College
- further strengthen partnerships with industry and
community
- play a leading role in ESD developments across the Further
Education sector
- increase environmental awareness of all staff and students
- apply energy and resource efficiency measures to the management
of all College estates, buildings and operations.
A key initiative for the College is to substantially reduce its
carbon emissions and to be one of the greenest colleges in the
country. A sustainability
policy has been developed which sets out the College’s aims for
sustainable development.
